This ref was from Connie VanWinsson from this weeks drawing event on Wetcanvas, it was a snapshot her nephew took on a recent trip. I loved the fabulous tree growing around the ruins, it was simply done with a pour and splash of lemon yellow, cobalt blue and rose aquamarine, then after drying, inked in the ruins.
Venezia by Fabriano
These sketches are all in my new 9x12 Venezia Sketchbooks. the paper is wonderful for ink and takes watercolor washes very well
I am inspired by the techniques in one of my favorite art books Watercolor without Boundaries by Karlyn Holman. all the drawings I plan on will be cityscapes, or landscapes, many from photos I took while on a trip to the UK and France. There will also be sketches from photo refs around the world shared by my Wetcanvas art friends.

The old and the new.
"These are the shoes my Grandfather played Basketball in in the early 1920s. The pink shoes were my Granddaughter's when she was smaller." the reference was from surob from wetcanvas.
I love the story told by the basketball sneakers. This was painted with walnut ink, and inktense in rose and cobalt.
